"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Apparently culture is also subject to the same perspective. Take the annual Mullet Toss in Perdido Key, FL. Unlike a "turkey shoot" where no turkeys are ever actually shot, at a "mullet toss" there are actual fish actually being thrown. It is considered culture on the Third Coast. For those of you looking down your noses at us I implore you to look in a mirror the next time you shun friends and family to watch the Westminster Dog Show. And for sure anyone who has ever voted in American Idol or Dancing with the Stars has no right to glare sardonically at anyone. Ever.
The Interstate Mullet Toss at the Flora-Bama Lounge has been a part of life on the Redneck Riviera for a quarter century. It has survived the likes of Ivan and Katrina and though there are several Mullet Tosses up and down the Gulf Coast this is the only where mullet are tossed across state lines as the Flora-Bama Lounge (a beach-side bar and oyster house) sits dead on the Florida-Alabama border.
