Longtime restaurateur Randy Goss was found dead Thursday morning in a partially-submerged car in Cibolo Creek on West Specht Road, near the Comal County line, authorities said.

Goss was inside a black Mercedes that a Bexar County public works crew spotted around 10:50 a.m. near Blanco Road and Specht Drive, said Ino Badillo, a spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Badillo said a swift-water rescue team pulled the man's body out of the car, which had drifted about 100 feet away from the bridge.

Officials could only see the top of the windshield because rain swelled the creek, he said.

Goss, the co-owner of The County Line restaurants, was known the "Rib King," a title he wore proudly as an executive with the company he helped open.

One of the original partners in the restaurant when it began in 1975, Goss focused on his two San Antonio locations, on Interstate 10 west and downtown on the River Walk.
